Young people were “saved from potential tragedy” after being cut off by the tide in Morecambe.

On Saturday evening (May 13), Morecambe RNLI received reports that youths were trapped near the Battery car park, holding onto a channel marker.

Morecambe’s deputy launch authority Martyn Browitt instructed crew to launch a lifeboat.

The young people were seen wading through water back to the shore and one had swalled a large amount of water.

The crew offered first aid but this was declined. The group of young people were safely taken back to shore.

The RNLI now want to remind the public about the dangers of being cut off by the tide and to stay out of channels as these fill fast with water.

A spokesperson for Morecambe RNLI said: “On Saturday, May 13 during the evening Morecambe RNLI were called to service by His Majesty’s coastguard.

“It’s imperative all those that go out on the bay are aware of the dangers of being cut off by the tide which will sweep around you.
