Two Darwen organisations are collaborating to host a charity pram race hoping to raise £5,000.

Talk Ourselves Well and the Man Support Collective in collaboration with the Lancashire HotPod are to bring Darwen the ‘first ever pram race of the 21st century’.

The groups are joining together to host this one-off charity event so Talk Ourselves Well can continue to provide support and advice regarding suicide prevention, mental health, and wellbeing to people across East Lancashire.

The fun community event is to help raise awareness, educate and empower people about mental health as well as showcase the fantastic work that is happening by Talk Ourselves Well and the Man Support Collective.

The money raised from the charity pram race through sponsorship will be used to help run the voluntary organisations who receive little funding as well as helping to buy a van and to also provide first aid for mental health sessions so the services can be given to more residents across the county.

Si Donnelly, 48, founder of Talk Ourselves Well said: “The pram race was the idea of Gav Scott and Mike Collins who run the Lancashire HotPod.

“They invited me onto their podcast with them to do a Talk Ourselves Well podcast and then Gav said he came up with an idea of having a pram race.

“I feel quite blessed that they have decided to set up this event for our group.

“The pram race used to be a big deal around here a few years back and Gav said he thought it would be a cracking way to raise awareness, raise some funds and just have a fun day really.”

The pram race will be in the style of a pub crawl where people taking part will stop along the three-mile race at pubs, have one drink at each pub (can be non-alcoholic) before hitting the finish line.

To take part in the event, organisers are looking for teams of two to take part using something that resembles a ‘pram’ such as a wheelbarrow, pram, or trolley.

The team and pram must also have a fun theme and a costume element, and one team member must always be in the pram in between each pub.

The event is going to be held on April 22 starting at the Craven Heifer Pub in Darwen at 3pm.

The three-mile route will take in ten pubs and finish at the Victoria Pub where there will be food and entertainment provided for all participants.
