THE Mall shopping centre, in Blackburn, recycled more than 248tonnes of retailer waste last year - its highest level ever.
The company said the amount was 43per cent of all waste, and it hopes to increase that to 50per cent by the end of this year.
Loraine Jones, general manager at The Mall, said the company has launched a partnership with the World Land Trust (WLT) to help preserve the world's rainforests.
The centre in Blackburn will help raise awareness of rainforests, the animals and plants that depend on the forests, and the challenges they face.
She said: "The world's rainforests are often referred to as the lungs of our planet.
"We are very proud to be supporting a cause that is so important to its future health and welfare."
