VOLUNTEER drivers who help people across Lancashire get out and about have been thanked by the county council for their hard work.
Cabinet member for sustainable development, County Coun Matthew Tomlinson made his comments in advance of Volunteers Week, which began on Sunday.
Volunteers Week is the UK''s annual celebration of the role helpers play in communities.
The week is also used to help recruit new volunteers.
Coun Tomlinson said: "Lancashire County Council provides funding for 13 community car schemes in Lancashire, which are run by a team of local volunteer drivers and provide a service for anyone who is unable to access public transport.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the drivers across the county for their invaluable contribution and dedication to the schemes.
"Their help is vital and makes a major contribution to the lives of many people, enabling isolated groups to undertake essential trips which they would not be able to without the goodwill of volunteers."
