BROWNIES in Edenfield are hunting for a new leader as the current Brown Owl prepares to hang up her uniform after 11 years in the role.

The 20th Rossendale pack needs a new leader to fill the shoes of Julie Butterworth, who is to step down in July due to career and family commitments.

Julie, 34, of Higherfield Road, Edenfield, began helping the Brownies 20 years ago when she was still a Girl Guide.

She became Brown Owl in 1997.

She said: "I've got a lot of pleasure from working with the Brownies. I'd recommend the role to anyone who loves children and has good ideas. You have to be committed because it's a voluntary role."

Julie, who works at the Learning Tree nursery in Stubbins, has promised to help and support her successor.
