A TEENAGER who attacked a man on his way to work and stole his mobile has been sentenced to youth custody.
Preston Crown Court was told that the victim walking along Montague Street, Blackburn, was subjected to "relentless" blows and kicks. His attacker sat on him while hitting him and demanding money.
The man was left with black eyes, cuts and bruises, needed two weeks off work and had been affected psychologically.
The 17-year-old defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted robbery and was sentenced to a 12 months detention and training order.
Mr Fraser Livesey, prosecuting, told the court the robbery took place around 5am on October 6 last year. The victim's DNA was found on his clothing.
Miss Jo Shepherd, defending, said the youth had shown remorse and had made steps to turn his life around.
