A FIREFIGHTER is set to take 12 workmates on a Spanish holiday after scooping £100,000 in a TV challenge.

Father-of-two Chris Rainford, 43, took on former England and current Yorkshire captain Darren Gough in Sunday's episode of the ITV show Beat the Star: The Contender.

And after coming out on top in the show Chris, who lives in Chorley, said he would keep his pledge to take members of Red Watch at Broughton Fire Station, where he works, for a sunshine break.

Chris said: "I promised the lads before I went that if I won £50,000, I'd take them to Anglesey and if I won £100,000 I'd take them to Spain.

"So I'm flying all 12 of the watch out to Majorca later in the year. "

The show pitches an ordinary member of the public in to a physical and mental battle against a sports star.

Chris is the current Fire Service Personality of the Year and says he cycles three times-a-week and swims fives times-a-week as part of his dedication to being a triathlete.

He said he will also take wife Pam and nine-year-old twins Joseph and Chloe on a holiday with his winnings.
