A TEENAGER suffered a suspected fractured skull and a bleed to the brain after he was attacked with a piece of wood, police have revealed.

Police have appealed for witnesses after the 15-year-old was hit on the head in Mitella Street, Burnley, on Saturday at 10.30pm.

The teenager, who lives in Turton Grove, was rushed to the Royal Blackburn Hospital with a suspected fractured skull where a scan revealed bleeding on his brain.

He was transferred to the Heywood ward of the Pendlebury Children's Hospital.

Police said the injuries to the 15-year-old are not thought to be life threatening. They said that a male had been arrested in connection with the attack.

A police spokesperson said: "We received a phone call from a male who lives in Turton Grove.

"He said he had been assaulted by another youth with a piece of wood in Mitella Street.

"The aggrieved sustained a suspected fractured skull and was receiving treatment at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

"One male was arrested."

The spokesperson added: "A CT scan on the aggrieved revealed bleeding on the brain and he has been transferred to the Heywood ward of the Pendlebury Children's Hospital.

"His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"Our inquiries are ongoing into the incident.

"We are only looking for one offender in connection with the attack "If anyone witnessed the attack or has any information they should contact Burnley CID."
