A DAD who armed himself with knives and upset passers-by after going to confront his former partner is awaiting sentence.

Burnley magistrates heard how Terence Patrick Brown, 33, had turned up at a house in Nelson at 4pm, threatened to put the windows through and then went into the street brandishing the knives.

He threw them to the floor when police arrived.

Brown, of Roland Avenue, Nelson, admited affray and having an article with a blade. He was bailed until May 7 for a report.

Carl Gaffney, prosecuting, said Brown turned up at a house on Rhoda Street and a number of adults and children were there. He picked up the knives from the kitchen, went into the living room and made threats.

He then went outside waving the knives around and causing concern and distress to passers-by.

Mark Williams, defending, said Brown and his ex-partner had a child.

He had not gone to the house to cause trouble but picked up the knives after the householder rang her sons. Brown had had trouble with them in the past.

Brown started shouting when he was put in the police van and some of the comments were racist.

Mr Williams added: "It should never have happened and had he not picked the knives up it never would."
