A HAUNTED hall is set to go global when it becomes the focus of a TV show from across the Atlantic.

Cameramen and presenters from American programme Ghost Hunters International will arrive at Samlesbury Hall at the end of this week to investigate the iconic building's paranormal past.

Described by Clitheroe ghost walker Simon Entwistle as one of the UK's top spooky sites, Samlesbury Hall has been hand-picked by US production company Pilgrim Films to be investigated by its two presenters, Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson.

The pair will spend a day at the site to see if they can get to the bottom of the hall's most famous myths, including the legend of The White Lady - Dorothy Southworth - whose ghost reputedly haunts the grounds.

Patrick Powell, the show's producer, said: "Our paranormal team will be investigating Samlesbury Hall and researching the history of the claims of ghostly activity.

"We will come over to the UK and look at the history of the hall and uncover the some of the background behind the ghost storie."

Simon Entwistle, who will appear in the show and provide a guided tour of the site, said Samlesbury Hall was a "national treasure" when it came to its supernatural status and claimed the Americans were well aware of its position as one of the UK's most haunted sites.

He said: "The TV show is huge in America. If we were to get a league table of haunted sites in the UK then Samlesbury Hall would be the equivalent of Manchester United or Liverpool.

"Some amazing things have happened in the hall. Acts of terrible barbarism and great sadness mark its history. The history of the hall spans seven centuries and I love going there. It's as if the building is watching you when you arrive. Lancashire is very rich for haunted buildings."

Lindsay Murray, functions and events manager at Samlesbury Hall, said the hall often had American visitors because of its reputation for being haunted.

She added: "The history is a massive part of our appeal and we get people coming from all over. The White Lady is the most famous ghost and we have had people who have seen her. I never have, though."

The episode of Ghost Hunters International is likely to be aired later in the year. Satellite viewers may be able to view the show on the Scifi channels.
