A YOUTH club is struggling to replace thousands of pounds worth of equipment after it was stolen by burglars.

Mixing desks, an X-Box and a Playstation 2 were amongst the £3,000 worth of goods stolen from Waterside Youth Club when thieves broke into their building.

The desks were used by up to 50 youngsters at the youth club, in Shaw Street, Colne, on regular MCing nights.

Jenelle Robertson, who manages the club on behalf of Groundworks Pennine Lancashire, said insurers have told her the two consoles will not be replaced because they were donated to the club.

And because the burglar alarm had not been fixed, after a previous break in two years ago, there might be problems getting the £1,800 desks replaced, she added.

Ms Robertson said: "We have a lot of teenagers from all over Colne and the nights were very popular with the youngsters taking turns on the desks.

"There might be a problem with the insurance paying out.

"After the club was previously broken into the alarm was not repaired.

"And this might be an issue when it comes to the insurance paying out."

Games for the consoles and an office computer were also stolen in the burglary, after a metal grate was removed and a window pushed through between March 19 and 21.

The mixing desks were bought two years ago with money from Lancashire County Council.

Ms Robertson said: "We were devastated when it happened and this is such a blow for the young people.

"Some of them have only the club to look forward to.

"If anyone has a games consoles they wish to donate then they should contact me.

"Also any computer games people have would be appreciated because all these were taken as well."

A police spokesperson said: "The mixing desks were very popular and kept the kids off the street.

"If anyone knows anything or witnessed the burglary they should contact us."
