A MAN who attacked a shopkeeper and was later involved in a revenge attack on a member of the victim's family, has been jailed for 18 months.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Kamran Ahmed attacked Saqib Ali, who was convicted of violent disorder after an incident involving Ahmed's uncle..

Ahmed, 27, of Albert Street, Brierfield, had admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and affray.

Nigel Booth, prosecuting, told the court in July 2006 Ali was working in his shop when the defendant arrived, wanted to buy two drinks, but claimed the victim was ripping him off. Ahmed was aggressive and abusive, but left.

Mr Ali left the shop to take a relative somewhere and when he came back the defendant and others were there.

The defendant went up to Mr Ali with an empty milk bottle and hit him on the forehead.

Mr Ali suffered two lacerations on his forehead and as he was bleeding from the face more than one person began to kick and punch him. Eventually he was able to run away.

Mr Booth said Mr Ali went on to be convicted of violent disorder. Others were found guilty of wounding with intent over the incident.

The complainant was Ahmed's uncle. Ahmed sought to take revenge on a member of Mr Ali's family.

Mr Booth added: "This was a sustained incident where Mr Ali was subjected to violence from these people.

"Apart from the wound to the abdomen, doctors noticed multiple bruises on his head and face and a laceration on his scalp."

The prosecutor added Amed had been convicted of affray in 2004 and had served three months in prison.
