A CARE home which appealed for a little light reading material were unprepared for the number they received.
Staff at Haslingden Hall. Lancaster Avenue, Haslingden, did not expect such a great response to their appeal.
Within a week of the story appearing in the Lancashire Telegraph on March 10, hundreds of books had been dropped off by well wishing locals.
Now, over a month later, the books are still arriving and the home now has so many that staff simply cannot count them all.
Manager John Wylie said: "The response has been absolutely amazing.
"We've been completely overwhelmed by the number of people who have wanted to help - I'm really not joking when I say we've now got a mountain of books!
"We started to count them but we just had so many we gave up.
"The local community has been absolutely fantastic and our residents are over the moon.
"Even the people who don't read have been interested and have come to a look at the huge pile of books.
"We are so grateful to everyone for taking the time to bring them in.
"They will give our residents many, many happy hours of reading."
The home is now asking that people stop donating books as they have more than enough.
