Anglers from across Lancashire are being advised not to fish without a rod licence.
It comes after Leyland Magistrates Court fined four men £325 plus £300 in costs and £60 in victims' surcharges after they were caught fishing without a rod licence in August and September last year.
Under law anyone aged over 12 who fishes for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in England, Wales or the Border Esk in Scotland is required by law to have a rod licence, supplied by the Environment Agency.
The money generated by rod licences is ploughed back into improving fishing for all anglers.
Anglers caught fishing without a licence couls have their tackle seized and face a fine of up to £2,500.
Rod licences cost £3.50 for one day's coarse and trout fishing and there is also a range of weekly, full year, concessionary and junior licences.
