A PERVERT who spied on a schoolgirl undressing at a Burnley leisure centre has been caught growing cannabis at his home.

George Burrows, 23, was found to have 29 plants on the go at his flat in Brierfield when police searched it on March 28, Burnley Magistrates heard.

Burrows hit the headlines earlier this year after being caught putting a mirror under the door of a communal changing room at St Peter's Leisure Centre.

He was subject to the 12 month community order with supervision imposed for the offence when the cannabis plants were discovered.

The defendant, of Colne Road, admitted cultivating cannabis. He was given a four week curfew, between 9pm and 7am, from Monday to Friday, but the bench made no order for costs.

Bench chairman Graham Jagger told him it was small scale production for the defendant's own use and he must have known the likely outcome if caught.

Sue Campbell, prosecuting, told the court at 22.55pm police went to Burrows's flat and smelled cannabis. They were allowed inside and when they searched the premises, they found the 29 plants and heating equipment.

The defendant made full and frank admissions to the police.

Geoff Ireland, defending, said Burrows bought the cannabis seeds from a local shop and looked up on the internet how to grow the drug.

He was quite a heavy user of cannabis and decided it might be cheaper to grow his own. The system was not particularly sophisticated, Mr Ireland said.

It was not guaranteed the 29 plants would have yielded any cannabis.

Mr Ireland added: "It was a fairly small enterprise and very much at the bottom end of the scale. The defendant appears to have been frank with police in interview and on arrest. "
