PENDLE Council has been praised highly for providing value for money services, in the latest report from the Audit Commission.
Chief executive Stephen Barnes said he was delighted with the findings of the independent national body which looked at how well the council is managed.
A letter presented to the council stated that the services had continued to improve in priority areas and that crime levels were down.
The recently opened walk-in centre - Contact Pendle - was deemed a visible improvement to Nelson town centre.
Tom Keena, of the Audit Commission, said that the council was one of only two district councils in northern England to be awarded top marks in an assessment of resources.
