TWO men from the same family are due in court today charged with conspiracy to steal from motor vehicles.

Patrick Maughan, 45, from Richmond Avenue, Accrington and 23-year-old Martin Maughan, from Barnes Street, Church, were both arrested after a series of early morning police raids yesterday.

The raids, which saw over 40 officers storm three addresses in Accrington, Church and Burnley, were part of a major operation to tackle an organised car crime gang suspected of stealing around £60,000 worth of power tools from vehicles in the last 11 months.

Both men were charged with conspiracy to steal from vehicles and remanded in custody to appear before Hyndburn magistrates this morning.

A third man, a 37-year-old also from the same family who was arrested after a raid at Padgate Place in Burnley, was cautioned for handling stolen goods.

A 26-year-old man from Church who was arrested yesterday afternoon in Nelson on suspicion of unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle has been bailed until April 23.
