At the junction of Hollingreave Road & Huffling Lane stands the Royal Butterfly Hotel, which was built in the early 19th century. The building itself is architecturally attractive, including alterations which have incorporated the former stables into the hotel proper (note the outline of an archway over what was the main entrance.) The Hotel is in fact named after a champion, shorthorn bull of the Towneley herd. His elder brother,Master Butterfly, was sold for,was sold for then a record amount and shipped to Australia. The Towneley, however, kept their prize possession, Royal Butterfly, despite being offered an even greater sum of 1200 guineas.
