A MAN who went to see his estranged wife, seeking a reconciliation, found another man in their house.

Hyndburn magistrates heard that Craig Hamer threw the other man out of the house before attacking his wife as she held their one-year-old child.

Hamer, 26, of Whalley Road, Accrington, admitted assaulting Jane Hamer.

He was committed on bail to Burnley Crown Court for sentence after the magistrates heard he was subject to a 52-week prison sentence which had been suspended for two years in April 2007 for an offence of violent disorder.

Charlotte Crane, prosecuting, said Mrs Hamer was sat in the living room talking to the other man, who was a mutual friend of her and her husband, when she saw a shape at the window.

She then heard her husband shouting that he was going to kill her.

"The next thing she knew he was in the living room and grabbed hold of her, pushing her against the wall," said Miss Crane.

Hamer told police that when he looked through the window his wife had seen him and closed the curtains. When he looked through a back window he saw one of his friends.

Gareth Price, defending, said Hamer had gone to see if there was any chance of a reconciliation.

"He accepts that when he saw his friend in the house he became angry," said Mr Price.
