A 28-year-old Darwen man took the law into his own hands after identifying a man who he thought had been selling drugs to his younger brother.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Sarfraz Khan twice went to the man's home to confront him and on the second occasion threw a brick through what he thought was the man's car.
But the vehicle belonged to the man's wife, who witnessed the incident from her bedroom window.
Khan, 28, of Maria Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He was ordered to pay £50 compensation and £60 costs.
Charlotte Crane, prosecuting, said when interviewed by police Khan said he had a dispute with the owner's husband who had been supplying drugs to his brother.
Basharat Ditta, defending, said Khan had become the head of his extended family after his father left.
"He discovered his younger brother was taking drugs and felt he had to do something about it," said Mr Ditta.
