We would like to introduce you to the St. John's Area Residents Group, a group set up to deal with the issues of local residents and be a voice for the people in communicationg with organisations like the council or housing.

I spoke with David Simm today, chairperson of the group and he let me know about their meeting tonight.

This will be the first AGM of the group, after setting up approximately 13 months ago. This is a huge step for the group's development.

He said, "We have a very strong local community so it seemed right to set up a group to deal with their concerns.

"We meet once a month, usually on the 3rd Monday of the month, but we've left it a bit later to make it our first AGM."

There are a few things that the group are currently discussing and making a priority. One item is the set-up of a neighbourhood watch for the area.

David also mentioned to me that the Youth Bus is in the area at the minute and possibly for a little while to come so they will be discussing the bus and its services for the St. John's area young people.

They have a sub-committee which was set-up to organise the area's Summer Fair, which I'm sure would appreciate any help or suggestions from local residents.

If you would like to know more, show your support for the group and their efforts or offer any issues that you would like them to discuss, you can contact chairperson David on 01282 774935 or turn up this evening at St. John's Community Hall, St. John's Road.

The meeting begins at 8pm
