RESIDENTS of Redvers Road in Darwen teamed up with local school pupils, community groups, the police and council officers to give their neighbourhood a spring clean.
Around 45 people took part in the clean-up campaign to clear litter, graffiti and other rubbish left by passers-by in the alleyways between Oaksfield and Redvers Road and adjoining wasteland.
Pupils from Darwen Vale High School's eco-group led the team , along with volunteers from Groundwork, Blackburn with Darwen Neighbourhood Engagement team and Twin Valley Homes.
"We realised that a lot of people use the alleyways as a thoroughfare from the nearby M65 services" said Janet Fishwick, Neighbourhood Regeneration Manager at Twin Valley Homes.
"As a result, litter and other rubbish was becoming a nuisance to the residents and a potential health and safety risk to the wider community".
Now the clean-up is complete, shrubs and other flora and fauna are to be planted to brighten up the landscape.
