CONTROVERSIAL comedian Jim Davidson is set to perform in an East Lancashire town later this year.

Jim is expected to bring his tour, Not Yet Cancelled, to Burnley Mechanics theatre this October.

Posting to their Facebook page, the Burnley theatre promises an evening of “rip-roaring” comedy.

The show's blurb reads: “Despite attempts by the woke minority to cancel one of Britain’s greatest comedians, Jim Davidson OBE continues to play to capacity audiences year after year.

“Jim invites you to join him for another evening of rip-roaring grown-up comedy and join the struggle against the few who try to divide us and impose their radical sensibilities on our culture.”

Since posting the event announcement to social, more than 150 people have spoken out about gig with some in support of the comedian and others opting not to buy a ticket.

One person said: “Nobody needs to cancel Jim Davidson. He’ll do the job himself by being unfunny, unpopular and not particularly relevant.”

Another said: “This headline is the only funny thing about Jim Davidson”

”I saw Jim Davidson back in the ‘80s," said another. "I will admit there were times when I thought ‘should I laugh, what will my parents say?’ as he used some quite colourful language.

“But everyone is allowed their opinion, if you don't like him don't go and see him it's as easy as that.”

“If people don't like him then they don't need to go but they shouldn't also try and stop those that do,” said another.

Another person said: “There is no such thing as 'grown-up comedy' this usually means offensive and involving bad/crude language.

“If something is funny it is suitable for all ages.”

Another criticised Burnley Mechanic’s caption, writing: “Give the man a gig by all means if you see fit, but it is not your place to judge those who find him offensive, or to call out anyone for being ‘woke’."

"He is an amazing comedian," said another.

Jim Davidson recently appeared on GB News and called for the end to “wokeness and political correctness” after Ricky Gervais was criticised for making a trans joke.

Jim has made headlines in the past for his controversial comments.

One of his famous characters was ‘Chalky White’ which reflected a West Indian Persona. After he performed the character during BBC One’s Seaside Special in 1977, he was criticised for making “crude racist jokes”.

Jim will be playing at the Burnley Mechanics Theatre, Manchester Road, Burnley, on 22 October 2022 at 7:30pm.

Tickets start are £26.50 and can be purchased from the Burnley Mechanics website: www.blcgroup.co.uk.
