A DRUNKEN man was arrested after trying to walk home from the Lake District to Leyland along railway tracks.

Police received three separate calls from members of the public on Sunday morning informing them they'd spotted a man walking along the tracks.

Officers located the man around a mile from Oxenholme station, just south of Kendal, and took him into police custody until he had managed to sober up.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "You know it’s a bad day when you turn up at Oxenholme Station on a Sunday morning, still drunk from the stag do attended the night before, no trains running yet, and think walking home to Leyland down the tracks is a good idea.

"Male arrested for trespass.

"Three separate calls from members of the public alerted us to this person on the tracks.

"As this incident happened before services had started running there was no delay to trains.

"After sobering up in custody the male was given a community resolution."
