The Met Office is urging people across Lancashire to be cautious on the roads this week and say ice and snow could lead to injury and travel disruption.
They have issued a yellow weather warning for ice across parts of Lancashire which will be in place today (4 January) and another yellow warning for snow and ice on Friday (7 January).
Today, the ice weather warning covers every area of Lancashire, apart from the coastal areas of Blackpool and Lytham St Annes.
The warning also stretched to other parts of the north including Manchester and Newcastle upon Tyne.
The Met Office says you can expect some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces as well as some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
The weather warnings don’t end there as there is a weather warning for snow and ice in place on Friday morning (7 January); it currently covers all parts of Lancashire.
A spokesperson for the Met office said: “Frequent sleet and snow showers may lead to some difficult driving conditions and disruption to travel on Friday morning.
“Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
“Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
“Some brief power outages are possible with a risk of isolated lightning strikes.”
What is a yellow weather warning?
According to the Met Office, yellow warnings can be issued for a range of weather situations.
Many are issued when it is likely that the weather will cause some low level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places.
Many people may be able to continue with their daily routine, but there will be some that will be directly impacted and so it is important to assess if you could be affected. Other yellow warnings are issued when the weather could bring much more severe impacts to the majority of people but the certainty of those impacts occurring is much lower.

What is the weather for the rest of the week in Lancashire?
It’s not the last of the icy weather with snow forecast in some parts of Lancashire later this week.
Across some parts of Lancashire, heavy snow is forecast for midday on Thursday (6 January) with sleet and snow showered predicted between 6am and 9am in the early hours of Friday morning (7 January).
Temperatures are expected to remain below 9 °C all week with temperatures dropping to a brisk – 2 °C in some parts tomorrow (5 January).

Tuesday 4 January
There is a yellow weather warning for ice in place today. Temperatures will reach highs of 3 °C and lows of 2 °C – although it will feel more like -2 °C.
Wednesday 5 January
It’s set to be a sunny day – but with feeling cold with temperatures dropping to -2 °C towards the evening.
Thursday 6 January
It’s predicted to be cloudy with heavy snow forecast for midday before changing to rain by 3pm.
Highs of 5 °C and lows of 2 °C are predicted.
Friday 7 January
There is a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in place on Friday.
The weather will be a mixture of snow, sleet and rain all day with temperatures reaching highs of 4 °C and dropping to 2 °C.
Saturday 8 January
The weekend is set to be milder than previous days with temperatures reaching 8 °C. However, heavy rain is forecast.
Sunday 9 January
Sunday’s weather is set to bring cloudy skies which changes to light rain by the early evening.
