The HUGELY popular Bolton Parkrun returned this weekend with hundreds of runners returning to the event.

Parkrun, the UK's biggest free running movement, sees hundreds of people taking to local parks across the country to run a 5k race.

The event usually takes place every Saturday morning in Leverhulme Park in Bolton, but has been cancelled for much of the last 18 months due to coronavirus restrictions.

The runs were allowed to return as part of the easing of Covid restrictions on July 19, with Bolton runners taking full advantage of this.

Nearly 300 runners turned up to their first event upon their return, with almost 40 volunteers also turning up early in the morning to help run the event.

The organisers said it was a brilliant morning, with participants commenting their relief at the event being back.

Bolton Parkrun posted saying: "293 runners returned to Bolton, with 38 wonderful volunteers.

"Thank you all for a brilliant morning, results done dusted and hitting your inbox right now."

Bolton Parkrun is free to enter and is every Saturday from 9am at Leverhulme Park. For more information, visit parkrun.org.uk/bolton.
