A HOMELESS charity in Bolton has opened up a new one-stop shop packed with services to help those in need.

Homeless Aid provides support and services in the town, often being spotted providing food to the homeless in the town centre.

And their new one-stop shop is hoping to offer a wider range of resources and opportunities for the less advantaged in the community.

The new unit based in the SureStore in Orlando Street is open from around 11am-2pm each day, providing a computer, signposting and other assistance for those who need it.

Billa Ahmed, one of the co-founders of Homeless Aid UK, said that more and more people were dropping in to the unit and he was proud of what they were able to offer people.

He said: "It is a place for people to come if they are struggling, or need help or just need a computer to print things off or apply for a job or something like that.

"A lot of people don't know about the hub just yet but the people that do are popping down a lot and we have found that more and more people are using it - we are just trying to do what we can to help.

"We do work with other agencies as well as emergency services to try and get people the best help that they need at the time. The council is doing some really good work at the minute and we do a lot of work with them too.

"We have people come in for food and we have found that a lot of people have never had to use anything like us in the past and don't know here to go - so the drop-in helps with the signposting."

A number of local organisations have helped in setting up the unit.

They include Scan Computers, GF Pennington, Atom Security, Copy Print Services and volunteer Gareth Evans for aiding with the network on the site.

SureStore also helped the charity upgrade to a larger unit to accommodate their needs.
