Residents in parts of Bolton have been left with discoloured water and poor water pressure this morning.

United Utilities have reported that BL4 residents, around Farnworth and Kearsley, may be experiencing poor water pressure from their taps or even water that is discoloured.

The problems were first reported around 7.45 this morning.

United Utilities said this is due to a leak on the junction of Plodder Lane and Laburham Road, which they are currently trying to repair.

A spokesman said: "Some customers in BL4 are reporting poor pressure and discoloured water.

"Our engineers are investigating the cause and your supply will return to normal as soon as possible.

"This can happen because of a disturbance to the water mains in your area. Our pipes have naturally occurring sediments and minerals which can get disturbed from the bottom of the pipes every now and then, normally when we have carried out a repair or have replaced a section of water main.

"We know it doesn’t look nice but don’t worry, it’s unlikely to be harmful and will settle down again with time. You can help by letting your cold water tap run at a slight trickle until your water runs clear again."

Residents are being asked to call United Utilities on 0345 672 3723 if they spot any water leaks on the their road.

They are also recommending residents visit their discoloured water page for more information.
