The overall coronavirus infection rate in Bolton has been falling over recent weeks.

The borough saw a huge spike in infections in late April and early May due to the spread of the Delta variant which gave Bolton the highest infection rate in the country for some time.

However, due to the work of the local NHS, CCG, public health teams, and countless volunteers and military support the number of cases has been falling in the borough over recent weeks, meaning Bolton now has one of the lowest infection rates in Greater Manchester.

There is a varying story across the borough, with some areas of Bolton recording very little cases of Covid-19 in recent days, while some areas have seen a significant increase in cases.

Highfield with New Bury is recording by far the highest amount of new cases in the borough, having recorded 53 new positive cases in the seven days to June 21.

This gives Highfield with New Bury an infection rate of 620.4 if spread per 100,000 people.

Kearsley with Stoneclough (414.6) and Horwich North (430.3) are both still seeing rates of above 400 per 100,000 respectively.

However, Horwich North did not see an increase in cases from the previous seven days to record this rate, whereas Kearsley and Stoneclough saw 14 extra cases compared to the previous week to see its infection rate rise.

Breightmet South with Darcy Lever (34) and Breightmet North (31) has seen an increase in cases recently, taking their infection rates above 350 per 100,000 with Central Bolton and Ainsworth with Bradley Fold the two other areas with increasing rates above 300 per 100,000.

Westhoughton East saw a significant rise in cases in the seven days to June 21, with 12 extra cases compared to the previous week, seeing its infection rate rise to 288.8 per 100,000.

While many places in Bolton have seen a rise in cases, this is much lower than much of the rest of the country, and Bolton's overall rate continues to fall as the majority areas have seen a fall in cases.

Rumworth North, that was once recording some of the highest rates in Bolton, is now recording the lowest after a recent fall in cases.
