A TEENAGER from Great Lever is carving out a rapping career and has already achieved over 200,000 views online.

Crystal Bushiri, 17, who performs under the name Crystal Millz, has recently collaborated with former Radio 1 DJ Charlie Sloth on a new rap video Hood Heat Cypher part one along with other upcoming artists available on Apple Music.

The DJ has tipped her as an artist who will "have a spectacular 12 months and is part of a new generation that deserve a celebration".

Crystal, who's just finished studying travel and tourism at Eccles Sixth form college, is set to release more music in the coming weeks and is planning on focusing on rapping full time now that she's finished her studies.

She's also working on a project with Daniel Sukula, who runs community interest company Be the Best to help inspire other young people in Bolton.

Crystal said: "I've always been into music for as long as I can remember, I used to sing songs with my cousins when were young.

"I loved listening to old hip hop music and artists like 2Pac although I didn't do any rapping at first.

"It was only when I saw a rapper performing on Youtube who was my age that I thought I would give it a go - so I started rapping myself.

"It's hard being a female rapper because people don't take you as seriously because you're a woman.

"But I've had lots of comments from people who really like what I'm doing.

"I usually rap about what I'm experiencing in life, things which happen in my family, that kind of thing."

At the moment Crystal works independently but she's hoping to make it on the international music scene one day.

She added: "Working with Charlie Sloth was great - he was amazing. It was a bit daunting but he is such a nice guy and he was really nice.

"It was such a good opportunity to work with him.

"It's good coming from Bolton too as it's somewhere different - you don't get a lot of female rappers coming from here."
