PILKINGTON Recs A made it two wins from two games after a 38-14 win over Wigan Spring View at Ruskin Drive.
It was an ideal start for Pilks, who took the lead inside the opening two minutes. After forcing a mistake from the opening kick off, Pilks used the field position well. Callum Cunliffe put a little grubber kick into the in-goal and Jack Roughley got on the end of it to score. Kam Ashall converted to open up a six-point lead.
However, Spring View got themselves back into it on the five minute mark. They had some pressure up the pitch, and their number 12 was put through a gap to score. The conversion attempt hit the post, meaning Pilks still lead by two points.
Just a couple of minutes later, Spring View took the lead. They spread the ball out wide for the winger to score in the corner. Once again, the conversion was missed, meaning their lead stood at two points.
Spring View extended their lead soon after with a penalty that Pilks conceded straight from a goal-line drop out.
Just before the half-hour, Pilks retook the lead. They came down the short side on the last tackle, and Connor Gavin was able to score in the corner. Ashall scored the conversion to give them a two-point lead again.
Pilks showed their class with their next try just past the half-hour. Alex Fitzhenry got the ball out wide, managed to flick an offload out to Lewis Caine, who kicked inside for Owain Abel to score. Ashall scored the conversion.
The hosts got one more try before the break. Aaron Lynch broke free down the left-hand side, had support on his inside but went himself and scored. Ashall missed the conversion, but Pilks went in at half-time with a 22-10 advantage.
Just nine minutes into the second half, Pilks struck again. Abel's kick found the Spring View fullback, but he dropped it under pressure, allowing Roughley to score his second. Ashall kicked the conversion.
On the hour mark, Pilks stretched their lead even further. They got back-to-back penalties and eventually found a way through, as Lynch scored his second. Karl Ingham was off target with the conversion attempt.
With seven minutes to go, Spring View claimed their third try. After a period of sustained pressure, their hooker managed to get on the end of a kick in-goal. The conversion was missed.
But the final word would go to Pilks as Warren Paladino took in a short ball and went over. Ryan Stevens scored the conversion to get Pilks up to 38 points.
