POLICE have renewed an appeal for information this evening after a road collision on Thursday.

Police launched the appeal after the collision on Highfield Road, Farnworth which involved a Mondial HPS motorcycle, which was later identified as a stolen vehicle, the rider of which had previously evaded police while travelling at speed, and a Vauxhall Vectra, also later identified as stolen.

The motorcyclist was seriously injured after colliding with the Vauxhall, the occupants of which then fled the scene.

Police Constable Philip Drummond said: "Thankfully no other people were seriously injured following this collision but the outcome could have been a lot more serious.

"We're appealing to anyone who may have witnessed either motorcycle or the Vauxhall Vectra in the area either before or during the pursuit and collision to speak with police.

"Anyone with information or dash-cam footage that could help us identify the motorcycle or the occupants of the Vauxhall are urged to get in touch with police."

Police first sighted the Mondial HPS motorcycle at around 9.30pm on Thursday 13 May 2021 along with a second unidentified motorcycle travelling at speed along Bolton Road, Atherton.

After failing to stop for the officers, a police pursuit commenced until the rider of the HPS bike, a 17-year-old male, removed and discarded his crash helmet, causing police to halt the pursuit.

The HPS bike was later sighted by an unmarked police vehicle on routine patrol on Highfield Road, Farnworth and a short while later another marked police vehicle spotted both motorcycles on the same road.

The motorcycles travelled in different directions and the marked police vehicle attempted to follow the unidentified motorcycle before losing sight of it.

In the meantime, the Mondial HPS travelled eastbound along Highfield Road before coming into collision with a Vauxhall Vectra that had been travelling northbound along the road.

The occupants of the Vectra subsequently fled the scene.

The rider of the Mondial HPS was carried away from the scene by unknown males and taken to a property on Thrush Avenue, Farnworth.

He was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries and remains there in a stable condition. Following police enquiries the Mondial HPS and the Vauxhall Vectra were confirmed as stolen vehicles. No arrests have been made.
