MORE than a quarter of residents across Warrington have now received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest NHS data shows 49,106 people in the town had received both jabs by May 2 – the equivalent of 29 per cent of the population aged 16 and over.

Of those to have received both jabs, 42,233 were aged 45 and over, equating to 43 per cent of the age group.

It means that 6,873 people aged between 16 to 44 have received both doses.

In Warrington, 115,153 people have received their first jab in the town, meaning that 164,259 vaccinations have been administered in total.

Across England, 12.9million people had received a second dose of the jab by May 2 – 28 per cent of the population aged over 16 and over.

That includes 11.1million people aged 45 and over, which is the equivalent of 45 per cent of the age group.

In total, 28.8million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine by the same date, covering 63 per cent of people over 16.

At present, residents aged 40 or over, or those who are due to turn 40 before July 1, are able to book appointments via the national coronavirus booking system.

NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who had received at least one dose between different areas across Warrington.

Appleton leads the way, with 84.3 per cent of residents aged 16 and over having been given their first vaccine dose.

This is followed by Appleton Thorn, Stretton and Walton (77.6 per cent) and Great Sankey (76.6 per cent).

Fairfield and Howley is the area with the lowest coverage (50.5 per cent), with Bewsey and Dallam (54.2 per cent) and Central Warrington (55.4 per cent) following closely.

Despite the success of the rollout, many members of staff at care homes in Warrington have not been vaccinated.

The figures show 1,736 out of 2,189 eligible staff, including agency workers, at older adult care homes had received a first dose by May 2 – meaning 21 per cent have not had a jab.

The Government is currently in consultation over plans to make the jab mandatory for staff over concerns for residents.
