THE way that residents can interact with loved ones in a Covid-safe manner impressed inspectors while visiting a Warrington care home.

Care Quality Commission representatives recently visited High Peak Residential and Nursing Home as part of its review of infection prevention and control measures in care facilities.

The inspection at the Main Lane home, near Culcheth, was passed with flying colours, with evaluators praising the protectionary protocols in place to keep Covid at bay.

They also highlighted the competent management in place, which ensured that the latest coronavirus guidance was followed closely.

In their report, inspectors said: “Effective infection prevention and control procedures were in place to prevent the transmission of infection, and the environment was clean, hygienic and well-maintained.

“Staff were provided with the necessary PPE, stock levels were well managed and staff were observed wearing the appropriate PPE during the inspection.

“Staffing levels were effectively managed and careful consideration was given to the deployment of staff.

“Regular testing was in place for people living at the home and staff who worked there.

“The most vulnerable people and staff had been identified and appropriate support measures had been implemented.”

The CQC says that relatives were supported to maintain regular contact with people who lived at the home.

An example of this was a designated visiting area fitted with Perspex protective covering and other safety measures.

The report says that a Covid-secure visiting pod was due to be completed very soon, designed to help facilitate socially distanced visits between people and their loved ones.

Other contact practices were in place, including video calls.

Inspectors added: “The registered manager ensured that the most recent Covid-19 policies, procedures and guidance was effectively communicated, and staff confirmed that they were fully informed and updated.”
