TRAFFIC is now moving after being held for 40 minutes as emergency services dealt with a crash on the M61 close to Rivington Services.

Police were called to the scene at around 6pm, with  traffic having been stopped on the carriageway.

The collision happened between junction 8 southbound, Chorley and junction 6, Horwich, De Havilland Way.

It involved two cars with motorway lanes reopened just after 7pm.

The carriageway had been shut with traffic held back for around 40 minutes while the clean-up of a spillage and recovery got underway.
