A MAN has admitted attacking and racially abusing a police officer who was left needing hospital treatment after being headbutted.

Despite receiving facial injuries, dedicated PC Hassan Mohammed returned to duty and completed his shift following the incident in Brandforth Gardens, Westhoughton, on January 25.

Police were called to an address in the street just before 9am after delivery driver Saad Butt was attacked, suffering cuts to his face and his van damaged and set on fire.

After PC Mohammed was attacked specialist officers were brought in and used a stun gun on 25-year-old Wesley Isbell, who racially abused both his victims.

Appearing via a video link from Forest Bank prison Isbell, of Queen Street, Little Hulton, pleaded guilty to two counts of racially aggravated actual bodily harm, criminal damage and arson to a transit van and using threatening behaviour.

Judge Timothy Stead adjourned sentencing for reports until June 10, but warned Isbell: "You will be well aware that this is a case where immediate imprisonment is highly likely."
