Forget computer games, this was how generations of youngsters in East Lancashire spent all their spare time - playing football in the street.
This ‘game’ was taking place on the cobbles of Whalley Street, Darwen, in 1947 and it looks as though someone’s little sister has been roped in to go in goal. The goalposts are marked by two bricks or stones close to the kerbs on either side of the road
