A MOTORIST was caught breaking the speed limit on a road where school children were crossing.

Officers were out conducting speed checks on Waidstone and Hallam Road in Nelson when they recorded a car being driven at 55mph in a 30 zone.

To make matters worse, it was at a time when schoolchildren were crossing the road.

A police spokesman said: “This afternoon we have been out in Nelson conducting speed checks on Waidshouse Road and Hallam Road.

“Most road users were driving within the speed limit and safely. However, one driver was recorded to be driving at 55mph in a 30mph zone at a time when school kids were crossing.

“That driver has been dealt with. We will continue to conduct speed checks in areas that have been raised as a concern by the community. Please drive safely.”
