The Bolton News: Revd Canon Dr Chris Bracegirdle

"Prince Philip was a remarkable man not only because of his unwavering support as consort to Her Majesty the Queen, but also because of the public service he rendered in his own right."

He added:" I met Prince Philip on one occasion, in 2016, and was impressed by his wit and almost forensic questioning of those of us presented to him – he wasn’t a man to be fobbed off by any generalisation in an answer to his questions.

"Equally impressive was the time and attention he gave to those he was chatting to. He wouldn’t be rushed, and even with the most demanding schedule, he clearly intended to give to each person introduced to him his whole and undivided attention.

"Prince Philip was also a great ambassador for interfaith working, using every opportunity to promote greater understanding and respect between faith groups. As Vicar of Bolton and as Chair of the Bolton Faith Leaders’ Forum, I want to express my sympathy and sincere condolences to Her Majesty the Queen at the loss of a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Prince Philip’s legacy is beyond measure and we thank God for him. May he rest in peace and rise in glory."

The church will open between noon and 4pm, with extra opening times due to be announced in due course.
