THE list of candidates hoping to get the region’s top job has been published.

Nine candidates are vying for the position of Greater Manchester Mayor, a ‘seat’ which is currently taken by Andy Burnham, who will be fighting to hold on to it for another term.

Greater Manchester Combined Authority — which is headed by the Metro Mayor — released the list today.

The candidates are Nick Buckley for Reform UK; Andy Burnham for Labour and Co-operative Party, Laura Evans for the Conservatives, Jonathan Farmer, Independent, Jane Horrocks for the Green Party, Edward Lepori for the Lib-Dems, Alec Marvel, Stephen Morris for the English Democrats and John Sutcliffe.

The mayoral elections will take place on May 6, alongside the local elections.

Mayoral powers include setting a ‘precept’ – a charge on council tax bills to help pay for the mayor’s work and local councils also make an agreed contribution towards the mayor’s activities and the role of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
