A TASTE of Portugal is set to arrive in Bolton town centre this summer with the opening of a new cafe and bakery.

TH3 GUY'S Bakers & Baristas plans to welcome customers to its Great Moor Street premises in June with an opening date still to be decided amid the coronavirus restrictions.

It will offer a range of traditional Portuguese bakery products, which are not likely to be found in mainstream supermarkets.

On the menu will be national signature sweet treat Portuguese custard tart along with bread and pastry combinations that are hits in the European country.

The shop name refers to the three partners that will be running the business, Tiago Silva, Craig Barlow and Abdul Ahmed.

Tiago, from Lisbon, also runs Tapaz restaurant on Bradshawgate, which opened in 2015.

He said: "We got together and we decided the building was a good location to have a cafe and bakery, which we really liked the idea of.

"I don't think there is cafe around this area that will have the variety that we will have.

"I have lived in Bolton for 10 years and it is growing and our shop will help it to grow.

"We are going to have very traditional Portuguese food such as the bread and the cakes that we will serve.

"When people come in we want them to be happy with what they see from the different pastries and cakes before they eat."

Now 31, Tiago opened his first business with his father-in-law in Portugal at the age of 18 before moving to the borough.

He added that as Tapaz does not have an outside area, it will remain closed under the coronavirus restrictions until May 17 when customers will be allowed to be served indoors if the government's Covid-19 "roadmap" stays on track.

Tiago added: "I am looking forward to Tapaz reopening and then TH3 GUY'S Bakers & Baristas opening at some point in June."
