Detectives have released an image of a man they want to speak to following an alleged assault in Bury last year where a man suffered serious head injuries.

On the afternoon of Friday September 4 2020, police were called to reports of an assault in Whitefield after a man in his 30s suffered serious injuries to his head and face after being assaulted in what they belive to be Mersey Drive.

A Gucci bag carrying £200 cash was stolen and the victim remained in hospital for several days.

A 35-year-old man was later arrested and charged with single counts of robbery, assault, possession of an offensive weapon, arson, handling stolen goods, and theft of a motor vehicle.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday 8 June 2021.

Enquiries, including forensics and CCTV, remain ongoing and officers are appealing to anyone who knows the identity of the man pictured to contact police as it is thought he may hold important information.

Detective constable Rob Thornley, of GMP Bury’s CID, said: “We have been exhausting all available avenues of enquiry since this incident was reported to us last year.

“If anyone believes they may know the identity of the man whose image we have released today as part of our investigation then I urge you to contact us so we can establish the full circumstances of how the victim came to sustain such serious injuries on that day.”
