A 16-year-old boy has been attacked during a fight at a youth club.

At around 9pm on Tuesday, police were called to Blackburn Youth Zone on Jubilee Street after receiving reports that a fight had broken out between a group of teenagers.

A 16-year-old boy suffered several injuries, which at the time were thought to be serious.

Officers dealing with the incident were able to identify the youngsters involved and say they will all be spoken with in due course.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We were called at around 9pm on Tuesday, April 7, to reports of an assault at a youth club on Jubilee Street, Blackburn.

"We attended and found a group of young people had become involved in an altercation, during which a 16-year-old boy had been assaulted.

"Thankfully his injuries are now not believed to be serious.

"Those involved have been identified and will be spoken to in due course.

"At this time we believe all parties involved were known to each other."

Interim CEO of Blackburn Youth Zone, Zaffer Khan said: "Blackburn Youth Zone take behaviour like last night very seriously.

"We believe the altercation started outside of the premises but continued inside.

"We do not condone any form of violence.

"The behaviour from some of our young people last night was not acceptable and we contacted the police for support.

"We are now working with the young people and their families; who were involved in last night’s altercation.

"The appropriate action will be taken but we want to ensure our members and their families that Blackburn Youth Zone remains a safe space for young people.”
