Over 30 million people in the UK have now been vaccinated against Covid-19 as 4 in 5 over 50s in Blackburn have accepted the jab.

Government data up to March 27 shows that of the 33,678,768 jabs given in the UK so far, with 30,151,287 having had their first dose of the vaccine, while 3,527,481 have also had their second dose.

In the most recent local authority figures released based on vaccinations up to March 21, Blackburn with Darwen has seen the second highest uptake in the same age group with 40,316 - 83.3 per cent – of the public accepting the jab.

The Ribble Valley has had the highest uptake in people aged 50 or over with 85.9 per cent, or 24,588 people have been vaccinated.

Hyndburn has also seen an uptake of over 80 per cent after 80.7 per cent of people having been vaccinated.

Pendle has seen an uptake 78.8 per cent, Rossendale an uptake of 78.5 per cent and Burnley has an uptake of 78.2 percent in people over 50.

In Lancashire and South Cumbria, it has been reported that 733,000 people have now been vaccinated.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that more than 30 million people have now had the jab across the UK – including 650,000 vaccinations delivered yesterday.

“The vaccine is saving lives and is our route out of this pandemic. I want to say a massive thanks to the team.

“When you get the call – get the jab.”

Today, another 19 deaths have been announced of people who died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Sunday, bringing the UK total to 126,592.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 149,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
