A MINI equipped with a projector will be touring the borough later this month as part of a pop-up art project.

The ‘Mini Moments’ project will see the old-style 1990 Mini driving around to project images and video featuring residents’ good news on homes and buildings.

Bolton at Home has teamed up with local visual arts duo Illuminos to bring the event to Bolton, which has been designed to allow people to watch the show from their windows or doorsteps.

And residents are now being encouraged to contribute their own news headlines to feature in the project.

Gaynor Cox, Housing Arts Officer for Bolton at Home, said: “These have been tough weeks for our communities and this project is designed to bring some joy and cheer. While lockdown means we’re not able to spend time with each other, we hope this project can still unite people by sharing the positives happening in our lives, however small they are.

“We’re encouraging people to send in their own mini moments of joy to feature in the project, which can be something as simple as winning the latest family Zoom quiz, discovering some chocolate you’d forgotten about, or finding some change down the back of the couch.”

Illuminos was created by brothers Matt and Rob Vale who have been creating projection-based art for over 10 years.

Their work for a vast array of cultural projects has been projected onto famous buildings including Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford, the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Liverpool Library, Leeds Civic Hall and Liverpool’s Chinese Arch.

The project will turn people’s headlines, images and video into a specially made news reel with the footage being beamed from the Mini’s headlights onto walls, garages and other structures.

Gaynor added: “We wanted to give people something that could be enjoyed from their own homes and we encourage people to remain on their property to view the show, rather than congregating with others.”

The Mini will be touring Bolton after sunset from Tuesday, March 16, with more details of the neighbourhoods being visited to be shared in the coming days on Bolton at Home’s Facebook page.

There will also be a live stream from the Bolton at Home Communities Facebook page.

Those wanting to share their good news to be considered for the project can do so by by several different methods.
