A CLOSURE order has been issued at a Bolton terraced house where a police officer was burned with a cigarette after being called to deal with a party amid coronavirus restrictions.

Police were sent to 452 Wigan Road in Deane last Monday (February 22) after reports were made of a party taking place there.

Representing Greater Manchester Police at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court, David Kent said officers arrived and found occupant Nikolas Bihari appeared to be having a party with his family and between 30 to 50 people were there. Elderly and middle-aged men and women were present as well as children, the court was told.

When police arrived, someone said they were having an “end of Covid party”.

Another added “that the Covid regulations came to an end and they contacted the police the day before”, but officers said this was not correct.

Fixed penalty notice (FPN) fines were then handed out.

Mr Kent said: “The mood of the people at the property changed and some individuals became upset and aggressive towards the officers.”

An “altercation” took place and a police officer was assaulted by one of the people at the party. Police then sounded the alarm for more officers to attend.

It was decided “significant nuisance” was caused to the public, Covid-19 regulations were breached and there was “disorder” at the premises.

People were “spilling out” into the streets.

Police believe the regulations were not understood or ignored. A notice was served and the case was taken to Manchester Magistrates’ Court the following day before a closure order was issued until March 8, later amended to March 2.

Mr Kent said police wanted a three-month closure order, which only allowed Bihari and his household to be at the house, as well as the landlord and emergency services.

The court also heard police were called to the same house last October when around 15 people were there and FPNs were issued.

The landlord, who was not named, said he told the occupant he was not happy with the behaviour and is giving him a final chance and will be doing weekly checks. Bihari apologised and said it will not happen again.

Chairman of the bench, Christopher Hallett, granted a three-month closure order.
