Bolton Council has welcomed the announcement that school's will return on March 8.

Vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi confirmed this morning that schools would be returning on March 8, before Boris Johnson's announcement as part of the road map out of lockdown.

The council has thrown its support behind this move, saying the classroom is the best place for a childs educational and social development.

Bolton Council's executive cabinet member for children's services, Cllr Anne Galloway, said: "Schools across Bolton have remained open throughout the pandemic for vulnerable pupils and the children of critical workers.

"Staff and teachers have done an incredible job supporting pupils learning from home ā€“ but the classroom is the best place for their educational and social development.

"Iā€™m sure many families will join me in welcoming any move that will allow more pupils to return to school safely with sensible precautions in place."
