A FASHION designer has made a dress out of newspapers to signify the good news people are hoping for.

Celina Zara Constantinides from Whalley started a project where she would ask followers on Instagram to give her a word for the month.

After picking from a hat, she started with ‘hope’ and decided to make a dress out of newspapers to signify the hope of good news since the new year started.

She said: “Creative people have struggled because usually we get inspiration by socialising and travelling, so it makes it difficult to work on things when you’re staring at the four walls at home all the time.

“So, every month since December I ask for a word from people then I pick one from a hat and do a little project on it.”

Miss Constantinides thought about the start of the vaccine rollout and the good news starting to emerge despite the third lockdown starting and wanted to incorporate it into her dress.

She said: “I thought maybe there was light at the end of the tunnel somewhere which give us all some hope, which I don’t think anyone has seen for a while.

“We are bombarded with news nowadays and it’s all we constantly look at and read to see if anything is getting better.

“Everyone is absorbing it all the time and hoping to see something good as well.”

Incorporating some colour with blue and purple, the fashion designer also wanted to pay homage to the NHS in the design somewhere.

She is hoping to get her dress on display somewhere in Blackburn and has contacted Blackburn Cathedral, where the vaccines are being given to those eligible.

She said: “I think it is amazing what Blackburn Cathedral are doing and maybe having my dress on display there will be good because it is a place where there is hope.”

The dress is made from just newspapers, with The Lancashire Telegraph included, among others such as The Telegraph and The Guardian.

Miss Constantinides said: “You couldn’t wear it outside! The dress won’t last and that also represents the hope that the pandemic will not last either, just like the dress.

“I hope that as the dress becomes old news eventually, and that we can really see a change this year with getting more good news as the summer arrives.”
