TRIBUTES were paid to two former Hyndburn councillors who died in the run up to Christmas at the borough's full Council meeting on Thursday night.

They were Lisa Allen, aged 55 who passed away on December 24, and Joan Scholes, who was aged 90 and passed away on November 30.

The tributes to the two Conservative politicians were led by council leader Cllr Miles Parkinson and his Tory counterpart Cllr Marlene Haworth.

Cllr Parkinson said both were dedicated serving the people of the borough.

He said former Baxenden representative Mrs Scholes, who was finishing her term on the council as he joined it 26 years ago, was 'a character'.

Veteran Labour councillor Jean Battle said: "Joan was a forceful woman.'

Cllr Howarth said former St Oswald's ward representative Mrs Allen was 'a hard-working councillor and a special friend'.

Her son Cllr Josh Allen is now a Conservative councillor for Immanuel ward.
