Nursery children have gone above and beyond this festive season by putting together care packages and delivering them to vulnerable people in their community.

Staff and children at Fernbank Nursery in Blackburn assembled the packages, which included handmade Christmas cards, and gave them out to the elderly as well as a community project that helps refugees and asylum seekers.

Deputy manager at the nursery, Rachael Eldridge, said: "As a charity nursery ourselves, we decided that we would like to give something as a good will gesture to our local community, as well as to the elderly and vulnerable.

"Parents, staff and friends collected groceries including tea, coffee, biscuits and toiletries to make enough for 42 care packages.

"A large number of these packages were donated to the Arc Project based in Blackburn, so that they could distribute them out on our behalf.

"The staff and children then visited neighbours in the local community to give them packages for their use over the festive season.

"Neighbours were delighted and one lady said that we made her day"

A spokesperson from ARC project in Blackburn said: "Huge thanks to Fernbank Nursery for their generous donations and the children who made lovely Christmas cards. Blessings as always."
